Tammi Terrell (born Thomasina Montgomery) (April 29, 1945 - March 16, 1970) was an African American Motown singer in the 1960s, best known for her duets using Marvin Gaye.
Innate around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she entered a music business at the age of Xiii, regularly performing survive. Inside 1961 she was signed to the fledgling Scepter Records (later Wand Records), recording under the title "Tammy Montgomery". When coming to the attention of James Brown she recorded one only to each one for Light brown's have Endeavor Us record label &, within 1964, Checker Records. A month fallowing that, she was spotted by Berry Gordy Jr. while playing live, and signed to his Motown label. Attractive & gifted, she became romantically coupled by owning two James 'last & David Ruffin, lead singer of The Temptations.
Initially Terrell recorded solo, sustaining simply moderate profits. Even so, from either 1967 onwards she recorded a series of duets sustaining Marvin Gaye, producing hits with Ashford & Simpson written tunes such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "You're All I Need to Get By". Unluckily, Terrell's profits was to become short-transient. In October 14, 1967, while crane-like at a homecoming for Hampton University in Virginia (contrary to popular belief, it was not Hampden-Sydney College, also inside Virginia), she collapsed around Gaye's arms & was rushed to the hospital, in which she was in the future diagnosed by owning the malignant brain tumor. Although she continued to write & perform in the studio, her health deteriorated. She was unable to record, & Valerie Simpson recorded most of the female vocals on the final Gaye/Terrell duet album, Easy. Terrell died in March 16, 1970 at the age of Two dozen.
Hearsay persist that her trouble was either brought around or even worsened by house servant abuse from either her survive-in fellow, David Ruffin. When Ruffaround & Terrell did fight, it was never proven that Ruffin abused her severely plenty to damage her in such how else.
Around a portion, Marvin Gaye's classic album ''What's Going On'', an introspective, low-key work which dealt with mature themes, was a reaction to Terrell's untimely passing. Two Terrell's solo function & her duets sustaining Marvaround Gaye remain in print in todays world.
